You can blame SoCal disc golfers Bill Maury-Holmes and Allen Risley for the Golden Sombrero Series. Begun in 2008 as the Triple Crown Series (Redlands, San Marcos and Palm Desert), the addition of Oak Valley in 2009 necessitated a new name. Bill hijacked “Golden Sombrero”, a term used to denote the situation where a baseball players strikes out four times in one game as the new moniker and it stuck, even after more events were added to the series.
Now in its eleventh season, the Golden Sombrero Series abides by the spirit of the Ice Bowl movement, raising funds at each event for local charities that help feed the hungry. We depend upon the hard work and dedication of our TDs and their associated volunteers to create events that both entertain the players and serve our local communities. We thank them for all they do.
